Swan (aka The Birdman aka John Ratliff) feeding the pigeons (little golden moths) at the 16th Street Bart station.
When I started living in my VW to save money, pretty soon the little golden moths showed up. I saw how frail they were. I began feeding them and saw how happy they were — filled with glee! So I began doing it every day.
They probably have photographic memory and a Buddha mind. There’s no alcohol, nothing junkin’ up their brains. They probably network and pick up words and would love to communicate with us, but our ears are too thick and their voices are too tiny.
There’s a mural dedicated to Swan just around the corner in Clarion Alley. You can find Swan in front of Abode Books on 16th Street most afternoons.
